The impact of traditional music curriculum on social and cognitive development in music education systems
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of traditional music curriculum on social and cognitive development within music education systems. The introduction contextualizes the significance of traditional music in cultural heritage and education, emphasizing its role in fostering a sense of belonging and shared identity among learners. The objective of the study is to investigate and analyze the multifaceted impact of traditional music curriculum on social and cognitive development within music education systems. The content and research site involve a qualitative approach, with key informants including students, music educators, and curriculum developers in traditional music education programs. Data collection methods include structured and semi-structured interviews, focus group sessions, and observational studies in music education settings. Thematic analysis is employed to identify recurring themes related to social and cognitive development outcomes. The research results indicate that traditional music education enhances memory, attention, concentration, logical thinking, teamwork, responsibility, discipline, and conflict-resolution skills among students. Suggestions based on the findings include integrating traditional music into interdisciplinary education, fostering collaborative learning environments, and promoting the holistic development of students in music education systems.
