Abstract

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay (1916–1968) was one of the most prominent social reformers, philosophers, and cultural visionaries of modern India. His philosophy of Integral Humanism (Ekatma Manav Darshan) offered an indigenous model for holistic development that harmonized material progress with moral, spiritual, and cultural values. Upadhyay’s vision centered on Antyodaya — the upliftment of the last person — emphasizing inclusivity, social justice, and the moral responsibility of governance. Through his advocacy of Swadeshi, decentralization, and ethical politics, he sought to build a self-reliant India rooted in its cultural identity. His role in integrating India’s diverse traditions under the framework of cultural unity made him a true nation-builder. This paper examines his life, philosophy, and the enduring relevance of his ideas in shaping the socio-cultural and political ethos of modern India.
