Conceptual Issues in Global Justice
Abstract
This paper attempts to conceptualise a principle of global justice and address the theoretical challenges that come with such a conceptualisation. It relies on secondary sources, particularly on important works on imminent authors on global justice such as Thomas Pogge, Charles Beitz, Darrel Moellendorf, Vidhu Verma, Laura Valentini and Jon Mandle among others. The study undertakes a qualitative approach and attempts to address the following research questions: (i) how can justice be conceptualised at the global level? (ii) What are the basis for claim of global justice? (iii) How can a notion of global justice reconcile with intimately connected concepts such as nationalism, duties and democracy? The paper concludes that a shared concept of global justice that is inclusive and culturally sensitive can be arrived at and it can harmonise with concomitant concepts of nationalism, duties and democracy.
